Bill Maher doesn't do a very good job of supporting his claim that his film doesn't condescend. He makes some pretty poor assumptions about religion being a cause, not a vehicle, of violence and craziness in the world. For someone who claims superiority in "I don't know," he sure doesn't question that assumption.
I think that Huckabee's restraint here shows his cleverness. He knows that he has a predominately conservative, Christian audience watching his show on FoxNews. He knows his audience will be picking apart everything Maher says. I don't think Maher realizes when he is condescending, but Huckabee does, and so does his audience. I suspect that a lot of the show's audience came away from this interview thinking highly of Huckabee for having this angry liberal on the show, and think poorly of Maher for his comments.
