John McCain is Computer Illiterate

Frankly, I would have a hard time believing this, but it's in the tape:

I'm worried about potentially electing a president who seems to not even use a computer, much less know how one works.

I'm hoping that McCain's comment came a little out of context and what he meant is that he doesn't know how to compare OS's...surely heaven he occasionally sends his own email and writes some speech material not by hand. Although I guess it's possible that his aides do both of those things for him and he just checks hard copies of the drafts. On the one hand, I guess this shows again how much his age disadvantages him, but on the other, I don't know if you really need to use a computer to do the job of president. I guess that's what aides are for.

I think that you make some good points; aides can accomplish a lot. However, I think that there is value in having a president who can change with the times and is self-reliant. Computers are only going to increase in importance over the next 4-8 years. So much has changed recently with programs like facebook, blogs, youtube and there are all sorts of new powerful ways of communicating. The president certainly doesn't have to be an expert in these areas, but I think having some familiarity with them would be important. On a slight tangent, imagine if the president had his/her own blog? Wouldn't that be awesome?
